Let's Talk: Freedom

Freedom
noun
the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.

The right to do anything you want without hindrance or restraints. So, why are we limited? Why do we hinder ourselves at times? Why do we let people control us and take away our freedom? Here's why. Because sometimes we're scared of the person who's taking away our freedom and we don't feel comfortable standing up to them. When you let someone take away your freedom, you're letting them control you. For example, in the US and in other countries, we have freedom. We're not controlled by the government, just the media. In other countries, like the Middle East, they have no freedom and they're controlled by the government. They are told how to act, think, what to watch on TV, how to dress, women have no rights, etc. With no freedom, you become a product of a country; a robot. In the US, the media controls us to some extent. We've become a product of the media. We're slaves or robots when it comes to the media. Yes, they're influencing us, but really they're controlling us.  They tell us what's in in fashion and beauty, who's popular in the celebrity world, etc. The radio plays non stop top 40 music and it's called top 40 for a reason! When it comes to elections or politics, you have non stop coverage on both parties. All of this is controlling us; controlling how we think and even how we act. Video games even control us, especially those violent games. They plague and control kids, teens, and adults minds and if they're influenced by it, they try to copy what they see. When people or the media controls you, you don't think on your own or for yourself. You think how others want you to think. Freedom's great, but sometimes we have too much and it goes too far. But that's another discussion for another day.
